Fine Dining @ 8 Dining

A brand new restaurant, 8 Dining, has opened up on Manasin Road, opposite the City Link Condos. It is a stylish, modern venue, offering as close to fine dining as you will find in Korat. It is very similar to their sister restaurant, 8 Bistro, so if you have been there before you know what to expect. A clean, sophisticated venue complete with live music and mood lighting, it is the perfect place to take a date, as long as she is worth the sizeable bill ;)

The menu here is also similar to 8 Bistro (although with several new dishes), offering an extensive choice of both traditional and modern Thai dishes. If you are feeling thirsty, there are several imported beers, freshly made cocktails and a decent selection of wines. I plumped for a duck red curry with mixed fruit, nam prik moo (spicy minced pork with vegetables) and some rice. The red curry was very good. I had never tried this dish with grapes, tomatoes and pineapple but it worked well. The pork dish was also good, but a little pretentious for me, served with a small flower bed of vegetables which weren’t for eating.

With my meal I tried an exciting new craft beer from Singha called Copper. It is 190 baht for a pint, but unfortunately didn’t do it for me. It has a very bland taste and I wouldn’t order it again. The mains averaged around 200 to 250 Baht, with some exceptions such as a tempting Massaman lamb shank at 450 Baht.

Overall I thought 8 Dining was a nice experience. It offers a really pleasant atmosphere with good quality food, drink and service. It is a bit pricey, but a good option for a date or special occasion.
