Beef Stew @ The George & Dragon

The George & Dragon does very good food. The chefs both worked at an Irish pub in Bangkok before moving to Korat with the George and I am always amazed at the quality of the meals when I order.

The beef stew is a big meal with a large bowl of hot stew, mashed potato or chips, vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, peas and cabbage) and a slice of bread with salted butter. The stew has nice big chunks of beef in a herby gravy with big pieces of carrot and potato in for good measure. The veg is not overcooked and keeps its natural flavour well and the slice of bread allows you to dunk throughout and mop at the end of your meal. I chucked the peas in the stew (opting for the old 'I eat my peas with honey' method of keeping them on my fork). The chips are thick enough to get your dunk on too. It took me the best part of 20 minutes to work through the whole meal methodically. I was extremely happy at the end.

For 230 Baht, it is a real filler, and definitely something I will be ordering again. For other meals at the George & Dragon, you can keep an eye on the specials board outside. Lots of good stuff to choose from.
