Traditional North Indian Chicken Curry @ The Monkey Bar

Unlike most places to eat in Korat, The Monkey Bar's menu changes constantly and is based around ever changing 'specials'. On the specials menu at the moment (but we don't know for how long, probably only a few days to be honest) is homemade Traditional North Indian Chicken Curry served with Cardamom Rice and a Cucumber Raita.

The curry is made to a traditional recipe and consists of tender chicken, potatoes, tomatoes, onion and garlic in a smooth gravy which was just right in terms of spice, it most definitely wasn't bland in spice terms but didn't blow your head off either. It had a lot of fresh coriander which personally I love and I think made the dish. It was accompanied by Cardamom Rice which I found much more interesting than the normal rice we get served everywhere on a daily basis and a delicious Cucumber Raita made from yogurt with cucumber, coriander and fresh lime juice, just right to calm the dish down for those who like a milder curry.

Being a Brit, I've eaten lorry loads of curries over the years and this reminded me most of a Chicken Jalfrezi and was as good as any I have had in the UK to be honest. It wasn't a 'British' curry, although am I am told they are scheduled to be included as specials in the future, but was, as the description said Traditional which made for a new taste experience which is always a bonus.

The aim with The Monkey Bar Specials is to only provide the best quality food, all freshly prepared using only fresh ingredients, which they certainly managed that with this dish. Highly recommended especially considering how hard it is to get a decent curry in Korat.
