Visit The Elephant Temple @ Wat Ban Rai

Wat Ban Rai is a stunning elephant temple out by Dan Khun Tord about 72km north west of Korat city centre down the 2148. It takes about 1 hour 20 mins on a motorbike on very good roads.

It's worth a good few hours because as well as being a beautiful temple, there are nice grounds to walk around and there's a tour inside the temple. It's full of fabulous local art, both traditional and modern. You can even go to the top via a spiral staircase for a stunning panoramic view of the countryside and lake. The Buddha statue and monk statue on the top are very impressive.

Rumour has it the temple is covered in over 2,000,000 pieces of ceramic that were broken up by just 4 local ladies to make a stunning giant mosaic. The whole temple is covered with interesting artwork with both a focus on local heritage and a modern twist.

The bright colours and statues give a lot of opportunities to take photos from the front and outsides, but for me, the most interesting part of this day trip is the range of eclectic art displays inside.

It's a very cool temple in Korat. One of Isan's finest and one of Korat's best kept secrets. Except for all of us who know ;)
