Boat Races @ Phimai

Phimai is a small town about 60km north east of Korat city on Route 2 (which should take you about an hour or less to drive.) It is famous for Prasat Hin Phi Mai historical park which is an ancient Khmer temple from the Angkor period during the reign of King Jayavarman VII.

Every year, this small town holds a special set of boat races that attract the attention of tourists from all over. The traditional long boat races are the main highlight with boats competing on the river surrounded by the beautiful historical scenery. There is also a spectacular evening light show at Pasat Phimai, the ancient temple in the centre of town.

This year's event will take place between the 12th and the 15th of November. The day pans out with a real festival atmosphere, with people lining up along the banks of the river to watch the long boats racing. As always, food and drink is available and if the weather holds up, a good day is had by all.

Decent accommodation is available in Phimai for a very reasonable price, so it makes a nice day trip with a night away from Korat.
