Driving Range @ Tiger Golf

Golf is very popular in Korat, and there are quite a few courses in and around town. If you are looking to play more often, you should contact the Walrus Pub as they organise a few golf days and have a good group of keen golfers who play regularly. They are all of mixed ability and are very welcoming of any new players who would like to join in.

Obviously, if you want to impress, you will have to get down to the driving range to make sure you can get that swing right (or even just shave off the high percentage of mishits). I don't get to play as much as I want to, but Tiger offers an affordable driving range that is not far from the centre of town. You can rent clubs if you don't have them and the balls are just 25 Baht per tray.

All in all, it costs you very little to get the practice in that is oh so necessary. You can also order food and drinks whilst you play, though you are not allowed to smoke in the golfing area. A Leo will set you back 65 Baht, and I can recommend the Isan sausage, the pad Thai (though it isn't very spicy) and the moo dediow.

By the end of the evening, there are literally thousands of balls out on the range, which led me to ask the question, 'who picks them all up?' It turns out that 5 people go out at 6:00am every morning and it takes them over an hour to collect them all. Still it beats working at a Cambodian golf driving range, where they are sent out wearing shields on their backs and are used as target practice when they are collecting the balls!
