Meatball Sub @ R Lom Dee

R Lom Dee is a western style restaurant in the Joho area. The owner's name is Noppon and he is Thai-American. He speaks both English and Thai fluently, so no major language barriers exists. The restaurant is rather small but it has an outside bar to sit at and two tables. When it is very busy he will put more tables out the front of the restaurant.

The best thing to tell a tuk tuk or taxi driver if your trying to get there, would be to say "Joho Homegardenville" or "Joho Homegardenville Sak-hulk" for a more descriptive location. It is on the same road as Blue Steak, Pukanya's, and the old Dr Pizza (which is now unfortunately closed). It opens at 4:00pm and usually closes around 10:00pm but he will stay open later if there are people there.

There is a pool table inside with plenty of room to play and enjoy yourself. Since he was raised in America, he is just as hot here as us foreigners are, so he has a portable air unit as well as a misting fan to cool his customers down. It really does make a HUGE difference!

Now on to what everyone wants to know about, the food! Noppon is (as am I) a huge sandwich lover. His best selling and most delicious sandwich is the Meatball Sub, a big 10 inch sub roll with around 5-6 meatballs, marinara sauce and melted cheese on top. It is served with either french fries or onion rings. It is absolutely the best around and is well worth the 180 Baht that he charges, you will not be disappointed.

New to the menu is a Philly Cheesesteak. A world famous sandwich made from thinly-sliced pieces of steak and melted cheese on a long sub roll. It is the only one around in Korat and will keep you coming back for more. It is also served with french fries or onion rings. I recommend mayonnaise or a sauce with it, as it can be a bit dry. Philly Cheesesteak is priced at 190 Baht, a steal for steak, cheese, bread, and french fries!

Because of length reasons I am not going to go over his entire menu, but that is not because the rest are mediocre. EVERYTHING is extremely delicious, Noppon does not go cheap when preparing any item. He has chicken wraps, beef and chicken burgers, salads and more!

As for the cons, the first would be the size of the restaurant as mentioned. It is a small place and can feel full with only a handful of people there. He also does not make any Thai dishes so if Thai food is needed you will have to order from a restaurant nearby and he will go pick it up for you.

His menu is not very big, maybe only 10 items, everything is good but it does leave you feeling like you don't have too many options. If you are able to deal with those three issues then your experience at R Lom Dee will be excellent.

Overall it is a great restaurant, great food, great people and great view of the busy street for some grade A people-watching. I highly recommend going there and checking it out. I often will go there and drink a few beers, eat an awesome meal, listen to music, watch tv, or just watch the world go by. It is a relaxing and friendly place that I am sure everyone will enjoy. Go see for yourself!
