Thai Food @ Dok Mai Cafe

On a quiet Thursday night our party of four drove across town to the stylish Dok Mai Café. On arrival a very welcoming staff member greeted us. The ambiance was very relaxed and comfortable. We were given the option of eating indoors or alfresco. As the weather had cooled off somewhat our party chose to sit outside where we had a generous pick of tables.

There was live music, which was very entertaining but perhaps a little loud and we put in a request for the volume to be turned down a little. The member of staff was very understanding and obliged.

The waitress was promptly back to ask for drink orders. Due to the fact that the weekend was looming, the majority of our party were drinking water apart from one who was drinking a bottle of reasonably priced Tiger beer.

The waitress was quite often floating ready to add ice and top up our drinks when needed. The staff were suffice in the time they left us to peruse the hefty menu with an array of Thai food. We decided for appetizers on prawn cakes which were tasty but nothing out of the ordinary and a very special dish of chicken and herbs in bai tuey leaves, which was outstanding.

For our main dishes we had the snapper and cashew nut stir-fry which did not disappoint, we accompanied this dish with a spicy bacon salad which did pack a punch but nothing that would surprise a Farang that had spent a bit of time in Thailand and a large crab fried rice was ordered as a staple and was tasty.

The fried fish with Thai herbs and spices was the stand-out dish. A large plate with a giant fish covered in lemon grass, chilli onions and lots of other interesting ingredients.

The restaurant had filled up quite substantially by the time we thought to order the old favourite chicken and cashew nuts and a small crab fried rice, which we decided to take away. The staff member was able to realise this request and we left having had a very pleasant evening.

The food was of a good quality, the atmosphere was above average and the staff were very friendly (and attractive!), I would definitely visit this restaurant again.
