The Irish Clock @ Udon Thani

The Irish Clock is one of the best places to stay in Udon in my opinion. It has a very nice pub feel to it and looks traditional inside with draught beer and a good food menu including western, Indian and Thai food. The breakfasts (varying sizes), sandwiches, burgers and Sunday roasts are all worth a go. The accommodation is well set out and decorated, clean and comfortable.

Bar

It is mainly an expats bar with an old crowd in the evenings, mostly there for food and a few drinks. You can order draught Guinness, Kilkenny and cider, which was enough to keep me there for a few rounds.

The seating is comfortable and the food arrived quickly, though the service depended on who was taking my order.

Accommodation

As far as rooms go, I was very impressed. All the rooms are large, with a comfortable double bed, A/C, cable tv, wooden fitted furnishings (work desk & wardrobe), hot rain head shower, western style bathroom and pleasant decor. Some rooms have balconies too.

For 750 Baht per night, you can go cheaper elsewhere, but I think it is well worth the added comfort. You can also call room service and take advantage of the decent food menu if you are feeling lazy.

Why stay at The Irish Clock?

  • Comfortable bedrooms
  • Good food and drinks menu
  • Imported draught beer
  • Less than a 5 minute walk to the bus station, train station and Central Plaza
  • It is on a street with lots of bars
  • 7 Eleven on the corner
  • Room service
  • Free wifi
  • Location

Udon has a few stretches of bars, and The Irish Clock is right in the middle of them. The road it is on is a little seedy, with mainly girly bars and massage, but the overall location is very convenient.

Address: 19/5-6 Samphan Thamit Alley, Nai Muang, Udon Thani

Directions: You can walk to The Irish Clock from Central or the bus station in just a couple of minutes. Exit Central Plaza and turn left. Take the first soi on the left and walk down about 50m. The Irish Clock is on your left.
