The Sports Bar Resort @ Pak Chong

There are lots of options for hotels and resorts in Pak Chong and Khao Yai, but one of our favourites is The Sports Bar & Pohrak Resort just a few kilometres outside Pak Chong town centre. It is just off the main road in a quiet setting, with several detached air con bungalow rooms, a bar area with a fantastic western and Thai food menu and a swimming pool.

It is perfect for a weekend away with friends and family. A good place to explore Khao Yai from, and then head back to have a drink, watch some sport on the big screen TV or shoot some pool.

They serve a wide selection of Thai, European, American and UK meals and also sell some of your favourite UK and other European ingredients, sauces and pies (frozen or in jars) from the bar. The kebabs are great, as are the French bread pizzas. In fact everything we have tried has been excellent. The variety is incredible!

Marcus and his wife are very hospitable and helpful. Marcus is from Bradford, and the family set up the bar some years back and have grown it bit by bit to be the lovely, homely resort it now is. There are plenty of local expats who head down of an evening for a beer and a bite too.

There's a choice of comfortable guest house accommodation within the Pohrak Resort immediately adjacent to The Sports Bar, where each guest house includes a double bed, en-suite western toilet and hot shower, all from only 650 Baht.

Pak Chong Sports Bar is also a decent venue to hold a family function, be it a wedding, birthday party or any other private family function.

There are nine separate guest houses in the Pohrak Resort, with one family size bungalow next to the pool that was 1,000 Baht the last time I visited.

They have 2 'Deluxe A' rooms, both decorated and furnished to a high standard, including one king size double bed, A/C, microwave, electric hob, kettle, toaster, fridge, cable TV, western style bathroom with shower cubical, terraced seating and a hammock. It really is excellent value for just 1,200 Baht per night.

There are also 2 'Deluxe B' rooms. Again, both decorated and furnished to a high standard, including two regular double beds, A/C, cable TV, western style bathroom and terraced area. All this for 1,000 Baht per night. Compared to what you get on the Thanarat Road leading to the Khao Yai National Park, you can't do better value wise or convenience wise.

Finally there are 5 'Standard' rooms with double bed, A/C, cable TV, western style bathroom and terraced area from only 650 Baht per night.

Make sure to book in advance over busy national holiday weekends as it fills up.

The Pohrak Resort also has an area for camping next to the swimming pool area. They provide a small selection of tents, or you can bring your own if you have one. For your comfort and convenience, you have immediate access to the newly built European style toilets and bathrooms, including hot showers.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is free of charge to all overnight residents, however, they do make a small charge for those wishing to use the swimming pool if you are not staying overnight.

The Sports Bar Resort is ideally located to visit all the popular visitor attractions in Khao Yai National Park and are also a good option for golfers staying over the night in the Pak Chong area.
