Suki Barbecue @ Pukanya's

Pukanya's is a Thai bar and restaurant focusing on Suki Barbecue. It is next to Blue Steak in the Joho Homegarden area that virtually all tuk tuks and taxis know. It is owned by a woman named Pukanya who lived in France for over 7 years and has a very good grasp of western culture. She can speak Thai, English and French making conversations with foreigners very easy. Pukanya's is open from 4:00pm until midnight. It is an outside bar/restaurant but there is a seating area inside with air con as well so all customers can be satisfied.

The main reason I am reviewing this is because it is a hidden gem in Joho. The ambiance is amazing, it has a stage which has live music nightly and plays both Thai and English songs. There is roadside seating to watch the world pass by whilst listening to music and enjoying a beverage. If you want some more private time, there is a garden area which provides a more intimate atmosphere. It also provides a sports bar feeling with live soccer on TV and a pool table. Pukanya really does her best to accommodate all customers!

If that isn't enough already, then I must add that the food is delicious as well. Prices vary depending on what you want. It is a Suki restaurant first so that is what they do best, although there are several other Thai dishes that are great as well. For those who do not care for Thai food, there is Western food as well by way of Fish & Chips, T-bone Steak and more. As I said, Pukanya's tries to have something for everyone!

I would suggest you go with a group if you are planning to party. Sometimes it can be slow if you are alone and if they don't know you they can be shy at times. Pukanya speaks English and is friendly so don't be intimidated. The biggest issue I have is their opening and closing times. She is very much on "Thai time" when it comes to that so be prepared. She doesn't close on a regular basis so when she does close it can be rather random. It is best to ask her when she is going to close so that you will be more prepared. If not there is plenty to do in Joho, so it certainly isn't the end of the world!

As I have expressed already, I personally enjoy it at Pukanya's. Everyone should experience it and give it a go.
