Buy a Cheap Flight @

I tend to travel by bus when I go away on holidays in Thailand, but it is always worth checking the prices for budget airlines online before committing yourself to the lottery of life that is Thai road travel. There are a few airlines to consider, and Air Asia is right up there with some of the best offers available.

I was recently (October 2014) able to secure a return airfare to Krabi for just 2 x 790 Baht, bringing the total to 1,580 Baht all in (airport charges and fuel tax already included).

When one considers that a bus from Bangkok to Krabi takes about 10-12 hours and costs anywhere between 450-800 Baht, it's a no-brainer to take the hour flight and an hour wait at the airport.

The beauty of flying with Air Asia is that all their flights (I think) fly from Don Muang airport on the north side of Bangkok, so you can take a bus from Korat and ask to get dropped off saving time (the trip from Don Muang to Mochit on the bus and the taxi ride back again) and money in Bangkok's northern traffic. I managed to leave my house in Korat at 11:45am on a Monday morning and was in Krabi Town by just gone 6pm. A shuttle bus leaves the airport regularly and delivers you to Krabi Town for 90 Baht or Ao Nang for a little more.

There is now a bus from Korat directly to Krabi, which is much quicker than changing buses in Bangkok as you avoid the Bangkok traffic and having to go from the northern bus terminal to the southern bus terminal. I still prefer to check if there is a cheap flight and there are always some good options if you can remain flexible as to where you want to go or you manage to book early enough in advance.
