Check Inn

Korat has had many popular foreign bars in the past few years and some have been and gone. Check Inn is a perfect example of a bar that has managed to gain a good reputation and keep a growing number of customers coming again and again. Both Thai and foreign food, live music, a good atmosphere, friendly staff and a nice outside seating area have established it as one of Korat's 'go to' places for foreigners and Thais living in Korat, or people passing through for a few days. It's location makes it easy to get a hotel at the Siri Pattana over the road, and it's just a short tuk tuk ride back if you live or are based in the city centre. Pee Moo waits in his tuk tuk right

outside, and operates til late – sometimes SO late, it's early ;) Suranaree Rd. offers a lot of nightlife and eating opportunities, and Check Inn adds to an already interesting street in the heart of Korat. It's below the World Class Snooker hall, formerly known as Zoom Zoom and has a few decent noodle shops neighbouring it that offer a good feast on the way home if you fancy trying some local street food. On arrival, you will usually be greeted outside by one of the girls on a busy night, or if it's a little quieter, you can walk past the outside seating area and get a drink from the bar.

Inside you have the option to sit at the bar and chat to the friendly waitresses (most speak a fair amount of English) or anyone else who is perched there. Have a look at the selection of beers and other drinks. Stella Artois and cans of cider are particularly interesting for those looking for an alternative to the wonderful, but all too monopolising Thai beers available. You may want to ask for ice in your drink, and you will find that when you have found your seat, the girls will top your drink up with beer/ whatever you are drinking and ice saving you the need to move.

This leaves you able to concentrate on your beer, stimulating conversation, a game of pool (terrific table) or even chuck a few arrows at the dart board (ask behind the bar).

The weekends offer live music on the stage inside, ranging from Haeng Over, who does great western music and a few popular Thai numbers to an assortment of local foreign and Thai bands. Special events are organised regularly, and will always get a good turnout and end up with a cracking atmosphere inside and out. Check with WhatsOnKorat or Check Inn for when their next event will be. With free Wifi at Check Inn, you can even check what's on whilst you wait for your drink!

For those who like to sit outside, you can take a seat by the fans and enjoy the sports on the large projector or watch the world pass by on Suranaree Rd. There are nearly always a few people sitting outside (afternoon or evening).

If you are hungry, order something from the menu. There is a lot to choose from; laab moo tord (deep fried pork laab balls – truly amazing!), pad krapow gai

sandwich. The chefs at Check Inn know what they are doing and it's all good!

If you're in Korat and looking for a place to have a few drinks, get a bite to eat, listen to some music, watch the football, play pool, meet some new faces (that speak English) or just looking for a friendly place to hang out and have a good time, try the Check Inn. Mam, Jin and the rest of the staff will definitely make sure you have a good evening of banter, bites and booze.

In Summary: Great location, friendly staff, cold beer, selection of spirits and drinks, tasty food, weekday happy hours, free WIFI, relaxing comfortable outdoor or indoor air conditioned seating, pool table, dart board, live Premier League football, AFL, 2/4 wheel motor racing Grand Prix.

Open: 11am – Midnight (Monday – Saturday) 4pm – Midnight (Sunday)

Parking: There is parking available behind the Check Inn (under World Class Snooker) or over the road at the Siri Pattana hotel.
